In early November 2024, a welfare check at a Tacoma, Washington motel led police to one of the most disturbing scenes of animal neglect they had ever witnessed.
Inside a parked 15-foot U-Haul truck, officers found 68 cats — crammed into crates, locked in darkness, with no food or water. Ten were already dead. The surviving cats were described in the police report as thin and completely soaked in urine and waste, stepping over the bodies of the deceased. The conditions inside the truck were so dire that one cat had been partially consumed by others.
39-year-old Naomi Erma Harrison, who identified herself as the owner of the vehicle, was arrested at the scene. She now faces 11 felony counts of first-degree animal cruelty and one misdemeanor count. If convicted on all charges, she faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine per felony count, along with a permanent ban from owning or caring for animals.
The surviving cats were rushed to the Humane Society for Tacoma/Pierce County for emergency treatment. Sadly, one more had to be humanely euthanized. A jury trial is now pending.
Animal Victory is demanding conviction on all 11 counts and the maximum sentence. This level of prolonged, mass suffering cannot be dismissed or minimized.
We're at only 75% of our goal — just 14,940 signatures. Help us push to 20,000 before the trial.
