Thousands of satellites will reenter Earth’s atmosphere in the coming years.
But what does that mean for our planet? 🌏
Astroscale’s new AIRS initiative with @unisouthampton and @planet is here to find out.

We welcomed Dr. Holger Krag, @esa Space Safety Programme Manager, to our cleanroom in Harwell during this week’s IADC annual meeting at ESA ECSAT, hosted by the @spacegovuk.
In front of our ELSA‑M spacecraft, we discussed progress on CAT for removal and IRUS for servicing – applying lessons from flying real missions to deliver mission‑ready space safety capabilities.
ELSA-M testing underway! 🛰️
First stop was at @RAL_Space_STFC, entering the UK’s National Satellite Test Facility for Mass Properties Testing.
This testing measures mass, centre of gravity, and moments of inertia - crucial for optimising satellite attitude control in space.
Astroscale is on the ground at the @SpaceFoundation's Space Symposium this week!
Our team is out in full force, with Astroscale UK Managing Director, Nick Shave FRAeS, sharing the latest from the event, including an update on the ELSA‑M mission timeline and the exciting milestones coming next.
If you’re attending, come and find us to learn more about the future of on‑orbit servicing.
#SpaceSymposium#SpaceForTomorrow
Proud to mark a key milestone for @dstlmod's #Orpheus with its recent design review completed and the release of the new mission patch. The two formation‑flying satellites will gather vital space‑weather & ionospheric data for the UK. Read the full news story here: astroscale.com/en/news/astro…
A new era of on-orbit inspection begins.
@astroscale_JP has unveiled the client satellites and concept of operations for ISSA-J1, the world’s first commercial multi-orbit satellite inspection mission, set to launch in 2027.

PM Takaichi: “I visited Astroscale Holdings Inc., a space startup company, together with President Macron of France. Through this visit, we confirmed the increasing development of private-sector cooperation between Japan and France in recent years (1/2)
Check out the highlights from today’s visit from @takaichi_sanae and @EmmanuelMacron to our HQ!
Advancing secure and sustainable space, together! 🇫🇷 🇯🇵
A historic day for Astroscale! 🇫🇷🛰️🇯🇵
@Astroscale_FR and @exotrail signed a contract to develop a satellite deorbiting mission by 2030
Announced during the visit of @EmmanuelMacron and @takaichi_sanae to our Tokyo HQ — a powerful signal of the role of commercial companies in addressing on-orbit servicing needs while strengthening national capabilities.

A powerful moment for space sustainability.
Honored to welcome @EmmanuelMacron and @takaichi_sanae to our Tokyo HQ — highlighting the importance of international cooperation in on-orbit servicing.
After 293 days in orbit, ADRAS-J is entering its final phase — controlled deorbit operations and closing out a groundbreaking mission.
ADRAS‑J made history as the first commerical mission to approach and capture close-range images of real space debris, from fly-around observations and getting as close as just 15 meters to a rocket upper stage
As ADRAS-J begins its journey back to Earth, it leaves behind more than milestones — it paves the way for the next step: actually removing debris from orbit.

Astroscale has selected @isaraerospace to launch the ELSA-M In-Orbit Demonstration mission – a key step toward routine, scalable in-orbit servicing. 🚀
ELSA-M builds on our rendezvous and proximity operations expertise to enable safe removal of an end-of-life satellite.
The ELSA-M mission is supported by the @spacegovuk through the through the @esa ’s programme of Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) as part of the Sunrise Partnership Project, a public-private partnership with @EutelsatGroup.

The Astra Carta seal will fly on our ELSA-M satellite, a powerful symbol of the shared commitment to protect Earth’s orbits and promote responsible activity beyond our planet.
Supported by @spacegovuk, @esa and @EutelsatGroup through the Sunrise Partnership Project, ELSA-M will remove a Eutelsat OneWeb satellite at the end of its life and show what sustainable space operations look like in action.

First look at @astroscale_JP's next inspection mission — ISSA-J1.
ISSA-J1 will show how one spacecraft can inspect two satellites in different orbits during a single mission, advancing more efficient and scalable on-orbit servicing.
The full mission concept and client satellites will be revealed soon.

Thank you to @UNOOSA Director Aarti Holla-Maini for visiting our HQ! 🙏
From discussing global norms to scaling on-orbit servicing and debris removal — and seeing mutiple satellites in our clean room — the focus was clear: we are turning commitment into progress.
Space sustainability isn’t a distant challenge — it’s a responsibility we must act on today.
At a COPUOS side event convened by @UNOOSA, @nobuokada outlined what real progress by 2030 could look like: strong SSA coordination, routine RPO and commercially viable debris removal.
