Uganda is going digital, and our cash rules are keeping pace. From 1 January 2027, the Bank of Uganda is introducing limits on over-the-counter cash withdrawals at the institutions we supervise: Individuals — UGX 50 million a day / 250 million a week Corporates — UGX 500 million a day / 2.5 billion a week This applies to cash over the counter only. Digital channels — RTGS, EFTs, and bank-to-wallet mobile money — stay fully open, and exceptions can be requested for sectors that still rely on cash.
