We are sad to hear of the passing of trailblazer Kanya King CBE after a courageous battle with cancer, and pay tribute to her and the incredible legacy she leaves behind. The Leader of the Council, Cllr Bev Craig has shared her thoughts:
Statement from Councillor Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council: "Kanya King CBE was a true trailblazer in her decades-long work championing black artists and bringing black music and culture to the mainstream here in the UK. We are sad to hear of her passing after a courageous battle with cancer and pay tribute to the incredible legacy she leaves behind. "We were honoured to have been asked by Kanya to host this year's landmark 30th anniversary of the MOBO Awards here in Manchester at Co-op Live. In the run-up to the astonishing show back in March, Kanya's determination, energy, enthusiasm, excitement, and her inclusivity, were compelling and inspiring. "We're determined to keep her legacy alive moving forwards, and to support and champion black music and culture here in Manchester."

Too often people say- you’ve build record affordable homes, affordable to who? To people like Sean & just young family who evicted for fault of theirs and forced into temp accommodation. Now he has a permanent home in the heart of ancoats. Record new homes for mcr people 👇🏼
