Chronic absenteeism is becoming a major challenge in schools across the United States and the impact goes far beyond academics. Schools provide students with stability, support systems, meals, mental health resources, and community connection. In Chicago Public Schools, 40% of students were chronically absent during the 2024–25 school year, meaning they missed at least 10% of school days.
