Today, the first Trade and Climate Dialogue begins at the Bonn Climate Conference. The process was mandated by the #COP30 Belém outcome decision, which called for a dialogue “on opportunities, challenges and barriers in relation to enhancing international cooperation related to the role of trade.” The dialogue brings together governments, civil society, and international governmental organisations, particularly the @wto, @UNCTAD and @ITCnews, on the @UNFCCC platform to discuss the intersections of trade and climate change. At the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), we have outlined what we believe the agenda should focus on. Here is our brief 👇 cseindia.org/an-equitable-tr…

Happening tomorrow! CSE Live Chat on what is slowing the transition to cleaner brick kilns in Delhi-NCR. Despite regulations mandating cleaner technologies and fuels, the brick-making sector continues to be a major contributor to air pollution in the region. A recent CSE survey reveals that coal remains widely used across brick kilns in Delhi-NCR. What is preventing a shift to cleaner alternatives? Are compliance and enforcement measures working? And what challenges do kiln owners face in making the transition? Join @Subhrozit and @sukanyanair3007 as they unpack the survey findings and discuss the roadblocks to cleaner brick production. 🗓️ June 12, 2026 | 3:00 PM 🔔 Set a reminder and watch live: youtube.com/live/gukoKsEekdo

On June 10, CSE’s Sustainable Industrialization Unit and Renewable Energy unit hosted @jeffrissman, Senior Director (Industry) of @EnergyInnovLLC. Mr. Rissman is a prominent climate policy analyst and author known for his comprehensive work on industrial decarbonization, most notably through his book, 𝑍𝑒𝑟𝑜-𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑏𝑜𝑛 𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑦. Drawing on over two decades of CSE's deep research and advocacy on industrial resource efficiency and environmental governance, the discussion focused on actionable pathways for a low-carbon future. He also shared findings from his recent work on Electrifying Industrial Heat (check it out here: energyinnovation.org/report/…), published in collaboration with India Energy & Climate Center (IECC) at @UCBerkeley. The CSE team shared learnings from their on-ground work with Hard-to-Abate Industrial sector stakeholders in identifying the persistent bottlenecks. We look forward to continued engagement with his team towards the shared goal of mitigating carbon emissions for sustainable development.

CSE’s @aygoswami spoke at the side event ‘Climate and Trade Cooperation for Climate-resilient Development’ during the Bonn Climate Conference (SB64). In her intervention, she underscored five principles that should guide the upcoming Trade-Climate Dialogue at the conference. These are listed in CSE’s new brief ‘An Equitable Trade-Climate Agenda’ available here: cseindia.org/an-equitable-tr…. 1. Development as a central objective: Trade–climate cooperation must explicitly recognise industrialisation, value addition, and structural transformation in developing countries as legitimate and necessary climate pathways. 2. Operationalising differentiation: Principles such as common but differentiated responsibilities and special and differential treatment must be translated into concrete design features of trade–climate instruments. 3. Preserving and/or enlarging policy space: Countries must retain the ability to deploy green industrial policy tools—subsidies, public procurement, localisation measures, and strategic regulation—to build domestic clean technology capacity. 4.  Green technology as a global public good: Rapid and affordable diffusion of climate-critical technologies requires greater flexibility in intellectual property regimes and proactive international cooperation. 5.  Multilateralism over unilateralism: Cooperative, transparent, and inclusive approaches must be prioritised over unilateral trade measures that risk fragmenting markets and deepening inequities. The event was jointly organized by the @IDOS_research @SeatiniU and @TESSForum.

🌍 Yesterday at the #JuneClimateMeetings2026 in Bonn, Germany, SEATINI, in partnership with TESS and IDOS, co-hosted the official side event, "Climate and Trade Cooperation for Climate-Resilient Development." Representing SEATINI, Deputy Executive Director Herbert Kafeero joined global experts to discuss how the COP30 Mutirão Decision can strengthen trade-climate cooperation, support green industrialization, expand technology access, and build resilient, sustainable economies. As trade and climate agendas become increasingly interconnected, meaningful participation of developing countries remains essential for delivering equitable climate action and sustainable development. @TESSForum @IDOS_research @herbertk4 @SeatiniU @mtic_uganda @UNFCCC @COP20CMP10 @Cop30noBrasil @wto @IISD_news @giz_gmbh @CSEINDIA @e3g @FAOclimate @UNDPUganda @nemaug
