A fundraising page has been set up to support a “hero” who used an Irish hurling stick to protect a man being attacked with a knife in Belfast. Dozens of people have donated to buy Maitiu Mág Tighearnán a pint via a GoFundMe page set up earlier today. The Irishman, along with several other men, have been praised by police for their “incredible bravery and community spirit”. A Sudanese man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, while a man in his 40s is in a critial condition in hospital.
