The more we know about what helps β and harms β LGBTQ youth, the better we can support them. We must look at both the risk factors β things that increase the likelihood that an LGBTQ kid will develop serious mental health problems β and the protective factors, or things that reduce that risk.
If a young person has a lot of risk factors and hardly any protective factors, they are particularly vulnerable. On the other hand, if they have a fair number of risk factors but a lot of protective factors, they may be less vulnerable.
