Columbus almost had a space needle, thanks to a proposed expansion of the Christopher Inn in the late 1970s.
The new tower was never built, and the inn was torn down in 1988.

The Valley Dale Ballroom opened in the 1910s, welcoming thousands of well known musicians to its stage β Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, the Velvet Underground, and Jimi Hendrix, to name a few.
Now, it continues to host Big Band performances in Columbus almost every Friday night.
