After a six-month hiatus due to an import error and lower priorities, reports of an uptick in COVID cases inspired me to get the COVID charts up-to-date again. So all case and death data charts are now current, as always available at: dangoodspeed.com/covid/

Weekly COVID cases are falling, with one very notable exception- Maine. For some reason it's nearing 10x the new per-capita COVID cases compared the rest of the country. It's also leading the country in per-capita deaths. dangoodspeed.com/covid/state…

Work on a new COVID chart that factors boosters by county hit a snag when I noticed some suspicious numbers in the CDC dataset. For example, it says in Danville City 15K got their first shot, 13.5K fully vaccinated, and 45 people got their booster. data.cdc.gov/resource/8xkx-a…

VA's site says 9K got their booster in Danville City. To make accurate charts, I need accurate datasets. Now I'm not sure of any dataset that has every county and their accurate vaccine data. vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus…

Just updated the partisanship colors based on the latest Cook Partisan Voting Index numbers. Every state that changed became more moderate. The CPVI groupings are 0-2, 3-7, 8-12, and 13 . You can see the new colors on the partisan charts like this one - dangoodspeed.com/covid/total…

As Omicron appears to be peaking in the worst hit states in the northeast, it continues to spread exponentially elsewhere. Rhode Island, with the most per-capita cases, had 1 out of every 16 residents testing positive just in the past two weeks. dangoodspeed.com/covid/state…

Rhode Island just became the first state to reach the sad distinction of 25% of the population having tested positive for COVID. With cases rising as they are, it could be joined by a dozen other states in the next month. dangoodspeed.com/covid/state…

Some states with densely populated areas had more than 2% of population testing positive in the past week (NY, NJ, PR, DC)... the US as a whole just hit 1% of the entire country testing positive in one week for the first time since the pandemic began. dangoodspeed.com/covid/state…

Amidst the surge pummeling the northeast, for the second time Rhode Island took the #1 spot for most total cases from the start of the pandemic from North Dakota. dangoodspeed.com/covid/state…

New York and New Jersey, who led the country in per-capita deaths for the first 18 months of the pandemic, are now not even in the top three. NY may even be dropping to #8 in the next week or two. dangoodspeed.com/covid/state…

For the past week, densely populated Washington DC has been setting records for most-new-cases-per-capita since the pandemic began. Though at the same time, they're also one of the "states" with the fewest per-capita deaths. dangoodspeed.com/covid/state…

Low-vaccinated Tennessee has been leading the country in per-capita deaths the entire month of December, at about four times the national average. dangoodspeed.com/covid/state…

Just updated the vaccination COVID charts to also account for booster status when color-coding each state. The states with a higher booster percentage are definitely doing better overall with cases and especially with deaths. Merry Christmas, everyone! dangoodspeed.com/covid/total…

The name of the newest COVID variant of concern, Omicron (aka B.1.1.529), ominously harkens back to the planet-destroying Unicron from the original Transformers movie. The variant has more than 30 mutations in the vaccine-targeting spike proteins.

Just learned Flourish added a feature where you can toggle categories (by clicking on them). So you can filter out categories to only show "Least Vaxxed" and "Most Vaxxed". It's kind of like seeing the charts again for the first time. dangoodspeed.com/covid/total…

Kinda surprised there's not more talk about COVID in Alaska, currently by far the worst in the country. More cases-per-million than the #2 and #3 spots combined. Tied for worst-cases-ever with November '20 North Dakota. Deaths are sure to follow. dangoodspeed.com/covid/state…
