Fifty years ago today, I walked into the bustling, cavernous @ChicagoTribune newsroom to begin a summer reporting internship that became a job and a mission and laid the foundation for my entire life. I showed up in a brand new suit--my one and only--and got sent out to help cover the muddy, tragic aftermath of a killer tornado in suburban Lemont. (Goodbye, suit!) Within a few years, I was covering City Hall and Chicago's colorful, no-holds-barred politics and learned a ton. I'll always be grateful for the brilliant, generous journalists who took me under their wings and taught me so much!

The @nyknicks had an epic playoff run, and the players deserve all the credit they're getting. But Mike Brown did a terrific job of coaching. Steady. Calm when they were down. Made the right adjustments. Set the right tone. Hell of a job.

Congrats to the @Knicks, who were a pillar of granite throughout the playoffs. They schooled the young @spurs and the Spurs have learned a painful but essential lesson in what it takes!

The Chicago White Sox just trounced the two-time World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-2, and are in first place with a 37-31 record. They didn't win their 37th game of the season in 2024 until Sept. 24 when they were 37-120. Welcome to a historic turnaround.

The irony of @realDonaldTrump calling another politician "a thug" and "the worst human being that's ever run for office" is too rich to ignore. Unless he meant it as a compliment?!? 🤔

If you had made a bet on Opening Day that the Chicago team that would be in first place this fine June AM would be the @whitesox, you would have been laughed at...and made made a bundle!

This is an ominous preview of just one way in which @POTUS may try to interfere with an election his party is on track to lose: Impeding the delivery of mail-in ballots by the USPS. Remember 2020 and January 6th before you say he'd never do THAT!

One of my greatest memories of growing up in NYC was the magical 1970 @nyknicks championship season. Fifty-six years later, I hope NYers enjoy this special team and their amazing run as much! You never know when the next one will come along!!

One other note on @POTUS's flameout. @kwelkernbc asked the questions that any good reporter should. Good for her for plowing through the @POTUS's rage and bluster to try & elicit answers. It's not "crooked" to ask straightforward Qs. And it's not strong to whine and walk out.

25% of CA voters are registered @GOP & Hilton is getting about 25% of the primary vote--even as another R is taking close to 10%. Not rigged. It's democracy! But Trump's braying about CA may well be a pretext for something else--an unprecedented & dangerous intervention in voting this fall.
