Templates sound boring Until they unblock non-video editors from making great looking videos @_hex_tech's video team sets up Descript layouts so marketers can start with the right structure, edit faster, and waste less time figuring out the software.

New in Underlord: @claudeai Fable 5. It sees your footage and just… understands it. The moving thing in your screen share? Zoomed. The on-screen text overlay? Perfected. The person talking? Framed. The AI credits? Burned.

Descript Changelog: Hackathon Telethon Updates, ElevenLabs V3 Tone Direction, Underlord Improvements & New Effects We had a two-day May hackathon “telethon,” where the team livestreamed builds, fulfilled 70 bugs and feature requests in 48 hours, and raised $14,000 for the Sierra Club, with more changes rolling out over the summer. Updates include transitions that remember last-used settings, an option to restore the classic color theme, an always-on credits and media minutes meter, and bullet points in text clips. @ElevenLabs V3 speakers now support inline tone direction (e.g., whispers, laughs, pauses, or custom prompts) that regenerates the surrounding paragraph. Underlord adds persistent chat history per project, an automatic review step to rerun edits that miss the mark, and the @claudeai Opus 4.8 model in the picker. The effects menu has been redesigned with 11 new effects, nine stylized looks, stackable effects, and gradient fills, and launches the Descript MCP connector in Claude and @ChatGPTapp marketplaces plus a CLI update 🕰️ Chapters: 00:21 Telethon Recap 01:07 Tone tags for AI speech 01:38 Underlord Updates 02:07 11 new video effects 02:39 DescriptMCP Connector 02:56 Bug Fixes

Somewhere on your drive there's a great video clip waiting three months to exist. It's already filmed & edited. It just needs someone to cut 40 seconds out of it. @_hex_tech's marketers don't wait for someone with "video" in their job title and just do it themselves. we are all on the video team now

Lots of people asked how I used Fable to edit its own launch video so I made a video about that! TLDR it wrote a lot of code & tool calls to use transcription services, ffmpeg, do colorgrading, use the figma mcp, make remotion UI and render it. I didn't touch a video editor.

a thing they don't tell you about making videos: you don’t always feel like doing it sometimes you just have a deadline, zero good ideas, and a bike ride forcing you to go outside

With all the AI tools it's so tempting for designers to just ship stuff and not learn about their codebase. Why bother right? If there's a bug just prompt AI to fix it. But this designer is instead using AI tools to generate high quality code so engineers spend less time reviewing his PR. 👀 Full conversation on Sneak Peek: youtu.be/4cDjS2tQ-hc @descript designer Cristobal show he uses @cursor_ai to improve his knowledge of the codebase👇
This is how a top designer uses Cursor Github Desktop to fix UI issues in production. No more waiting on engineers to fix these things. Designers can jump into Cursor and clear the design debt themselves! 👀 Full conversation on Sneak Peek: youtu.be/4cDjS2tQ-hc @descript designer Cristobal show how he uses @cursor_ai @github to free up engineering bandwidth👇

and connect all of these to your video editing tool with the API descript.com/api
everyone's sleeping on how absurdly good 2026 is to start a company (even compared to 2024) one person can now: - ship full apps without engineers (cursor, replit) - design without being a designer (v0, Claude Design) - turn one video into 10 clips (opus, descript) - push those clips to millions (X, Linkedin, TikTok) - replace a support team (chatbase, intercom) - literally watch exactly what their users do (Posthog) - find target perfect leads on autopilot (origami) This is such a rare window. I just can’t imagine it being this easy ever again

"Do you have a background in video editing?" "Absolutely not." Proceeds to ship great videos for @_hex_tech

Part of what we're doing with Ad Astra is building out a ton of content. Just had @descript do a demo for us. Amazing what that tech can do. Pumped to use it!

Hungover on Memorial Day weekend hotdogs, Ramdy has to make a vlog about his bike ride… in a single day. Whether you are watching to learn how to edit videos, or the sheer entertainment factor, no judgement here.

gotta polish up those launch videos then
I think the challenge is that everyone can now build apps But 1) almost nobody has distribution (like an audience), or 2) the money to pay for distribution (ads or UGC), or 3) the creative genius to get distribution for free (classically called guerilla marketing)

Agent instructions sound helpful, until your long-form podcast gets edited like a 30 second reel with jump cuts and flashy captions. This is exactly why Underlord is being built to understand the difference between workflows, formats, and use cases, so the edit fits the thing you are making.
