I'm not sure many people have processed the importance of Britain's defence spending crisis. What should have been a waypoint on a journey of revival has instead become another one in the arc of decline 👇

This is one of the most important churches in Ukraine. The Russians would not strike it by accident. Putin is deliberately attacking Christianity, history, culture
Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kyiv shares video of the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra in flames. “We ask for prayers for the salvation of the shrine from destruction,” he writes. He calls the Russian attack: “Another Russian crime against humanity, against history, against Christianity.”

HMG is lining itself up for a punishing month with its allies. The UK has been at the heart of designing NATO's defence plans. Those plans specify what allies agreed was necessary to ensure deterrence. Allies made commitments as to what part of the plan they would resource. 1/9

Why should people of working age have a lower personal allowance than pensioners? Age related allowances were abolished in the 2012 Budget and - even though it provoked a row about ‘the granny tax’ - we stuck to it. They’re unfair, expensive & create additional tax complexity.

I recall Robbie Lammas timed his defection during the 2025 Conservative Party conference. Where @reformparty_uk tried to derail CPC with a defection every couple of mins (in which they failed). Now Lammas has found the milk from Farage’s teat is sour and his defection was a huge mistake. Shock.
A Medway councillor who quit the Conservatives to join Reform UK has now left the party, calling his decision to defect "the biggest mistake of my life". More here: bbc.in/49YhxCB

I canvassed in Makerfield on Saturday. I came across a large number of Tories who felt that whilst they love Kemi - big thumbs up for her- they feared reform winning so they are voting tactically at this by election for Andy Burnham. They thought Michael Winstanley, the conservative candidate, was outstanding. One said- “ I told myself I would never vote Labour ever again- but I will this time to stop reform. In my 50 years in politics I’ve never seen this phenomenon before.

I pay tribute to the brave Royal Marine Commandos who boarded a Russian shadow fleet oil tanker overnight in the English Channel. Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine is funded by their oil exports in defiance of sanctions. As Leader of the Opposition, I support the Government in standing with Ukraine.

We are living in an extremely dangerous world.
But John Healey’s resignation letter revealed that Starmer and Reeves are refusing to properly fund our military. It’s time to cut welfare spending to fund our defence. @TomTugendhat

For anyone who failed to understand Kemi’s message: Kemi didn’t say “yes”. She said no deal before an election, no deal during an election, no deal after an election. Hope that's cleared things up.
It couldn't be clearer. Vote Conservative: Get Farage

Listen very carefully folks. There ain’t gonna be no deal with Reform. Not ever. NIgel’s fanboys might try and talk it up. It ain’t happening. To quote Kemi. It is bullshit
This is bullshit. What I ACTUALLY said is we "cannot have another left-wing government. But I'm afraid that Reform has quite a lot of left-wing ideas. They want more benefits. They want nationalisation” I then said. On "deals, non-aggression pacts and so on....I'm just saying no. It's just no, no, no, no, no, no, no."

John Healey shadowed me for over 4 years. While i didn’t agree with everything he did i know he tried his best and had the interests of the Armed Forces at his heart. i know he loved the job and it will have not been easy to resign. His loyalty to his Party and PM was not reciprocated by them when it mattered and i think he was left with no choice. i wish him the very best. His resignation was one of principle.

Doesn't always happen, but on this I agree completely with @Jacob_Rees_Mogg . The article is excellent advice to any aspirant or actual PM.
This is excellent advice from a first class civil servant. labourlist.org/2026/06/civil…

Today marks a truly grim milestone: the war in Ukraine has now lasted longer than the First World War. Whoever takes over at the Ministry of Defence, I hope they are as committed to Ukraine's victory as Ben Wallace, John Healey and I were during our time as Defence Secretaries. Defence Secretaries come and go. Our commitment to Ukraine's victory must not.

John Healey, the former Defence Secretary, has acted honourably by resigning. Keir Starmer is too weak to cut welfare and fund defence - as I told him yesterday at PMQs. Only the Conservatives have a plan to put our national security first.

Remarkable quote from Healey: “I am being forced to make decisions that would reduce the readiness of our forces and increase the risk to personnel on operations, and could make our country less safe.”
