Not everyone experiences desire the same way. Spontaneous desire shows up inside the person. Contextual desire depends on relational & environmental context. Responsive desire emerges when something feels good. See Nagoski's "Come As You Are" for this and the next point.

Regulating desire is possible. My favorite way is to help the man expand his view of the situation. Is desire your only goal? What about goals like not hurting your partner, maintaining your relationship, and giving your partner pleasure? What are you doing to reach those goals?
