English Language Teaching Centres added £82 million pounds in value to the economy in the South West in 2024, particularly boosting our hospitality industry. I met with Jodie yesterday, the CEO of English UK in Parliament to discuss the fact that tax relief for families renting their rooms out has not gone up since 2016. Having grown up in a B & B in Torquay myself, I know how important the hospitality sector is to families in Torbay, and English language students contribute a great deal to this. When I visited International House Torquay, I learnt that 70% of students there stay with host families. The Government needs to be taking the Hospitality sector seriously, including by providing greater support for hosting English language students.

This week @englishuk will release an updated position paper in Parliament. It will reflect some of the policies that have already been adopted as the association urges the government to go “further and faster”. Find out more here: bit.ly/4tD8UEB

🦈 StudyWorld’s networking party at @SEALIFEBrighton was a memorable evening for all. Zachary Bartosik of MLA World which hosted the event, joked: “We’ve made a real splash here tonight,” as hundreds of guests chatted and danced in the world’s oldest aquarium. Around 200 agents, educators and service providers enjoyed relaxing after a thousand productive meetings held during the first full day of #StudyWorld.
