Before becoming a farmer, Ailbhe Gerrard worked in construction project management and international development. She could have built a career almost anywhere in the world. Instead, she returned to Ireland, purchased a neglected farm in County Tipperary, and set out to create something new. Today, Brookfield Farm is an award-winning organic farm overlooking Lough Derg, home to sheep, bees, woodlands, and wildflower meadows. Ailbhe is also a Nuffield Agricultural Scholar, educator, and founder of Field Exchange, bringing together farmers, artists, scientists, and communities to explore the future of food and agriculture. Ailbhe is one of the farmers featured in Food Tank's new documentary short film, Irish Farmers: A Love Story. Through her story, audiences from Ireland and around the world will gain a deeper understanding of the people, places, and decisions that shape Irish agriculture today. Join us on June 22 at Dublin's Light House Cinema for a screening of the film, followed by a live conversation with Ailbhe, Sophie Bell, and Carina Roseingrave. Tickets: eventbrite.com/e/irish-farme…

“Having workers tied to an employer for their legal status, their wages, working conditions, their ability to return, creates such a power differential that really exacerbates vulnerability to forced labor,” said Rachel Micah-Jones, executive director of the Centro de los Derechos del Migrante, which advocates on behalf of migrant workers. "Food insecurity could be your next-door neighbor," says Nicole Williams, the CEO of the food bank. "When gas costs a little bit more or food costs a little bit more, or they have a repair on their car or a medical bill, that takes away what they might be using to spend on food." npr.org/2026/05/27/nx-s1-583…

New polling also offered new insight into why 41 percent of Americans identify with the MAHA movement — including 22 percent who said they do so strongly. The top reasons respondents gave were hopes for a healthier country (19 percent), removing or regulating harmful substances in food (15 percent), and improving nutrition and reducing obesity rates (7 percent each). Only 4 percent mentioned vaccines or ‘medical choice,’ and few mentioned President Donald Trump or Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. What if the price we pay at the checkout doesn’t reflect the real cost of our food? From soil degradation and water pollution to diet-related illness and unsafe labor conditions, many of the biggest impacts of our food system remain hidden from consumers, policymakers, and markets. True Cost Accounting is an evolving framework that looks beyond the price tag to measure food’s full impact on people, planet, and society—and help build a food system that values health, fairness, and sustainability alongside profit. Food Tank Explains True Cost Accounting: foodtank.com/news/2026/05/fo…
