Every day, thousands of talented Nigerians and Africans leave home.
Not because they want to.
But because they feel they have no choice.
There are so many talented people migrating to countries like the United States, Germany, and even South Africa.
Why?
Because they believe they are not getting the right opportunities at home.
But here’s the truth most people ignore:
Not everyone actually wants to leave.
Many would rather stay close to:
• their families
• their culture
• their communities
But circumstances push them out.
My concern is this:
Instead of constantly asking why people are leaving…
Why aren’t we focusing more on building a place they don’t want to leave?
What if we focused on:
• better roads and infrastructure
• reliable electricity and amenities
• strong security systems
• accessible healthcare
• an enabling environment for growth
Because when the environment works…
Talent stays.
And when talent stays:
- innovation grows
- businesses scale
- economies develop faster
Right now, every day, we are exporting some of our best minds.
The question is:
For how long do we keep going in circles?
Here are 3 things I believe can make a difference:
1. Build a conducive environment
When a place works, people stay. Infrastructure is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.
2. Create real opportunities
Talents need platforms to express their skills and grow. Without this, they will look elsewhere.
3. Ensure fairness and stability
Clear policies, equal opportunities, and career security give people confidence to stay and build.
Great talent is the foundation of any developing nation.
If we keep losing them…
We slow down our own progress.
I am curious to hear your thoughts, do you think talent migration is a problem we can realistically solve?
