I refuse to remain silent or allow myself to be manipulated and brainwashed. In Indianapolis, I faced backlash for criticizing the politicization of public safety in our city over the past 10 years, a period during which we have witnessed the highest levels of violence in its history. I have also encountered criticism for speaking out about black-on-black violence, even though Black Americans make up 13% of the population yet represent over 50% of homicide victims. In many large cities, we account for 70% to 80% of homicide victims. Furthermore, I was criticized for opposing the defunding of the police and for rejecting cancel culture. I stand firmly against wokeness and identity politics.
