Higher ed is being asked to do more with less. What if constraints aren’t just a problem to manage, but actually the starting point for innovation?
TODAY, I’m talking with author of the new New York Times bestseller, "Inside the Box," @DavidEpstein. A fascinating book with a counterintuitive thesis about why limits can sharpen strategy and actually unlock creativity.

"Applications to the five dozen campuses that accept <20% of applicants have skyrocketed, from 800K two decades ago to >2.35 million. This is why the admissions process feels so much more competitive to parents who went to college in the ’80s and ’90s." theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…
"The spread of colleges into towns and cities across the country, which put a degree within reach of a growing share of the public, is one of the triumphs of postwar America," @jselingo writes. "We’re now at risk of the process playing out in reverse." theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…
Scoop: U.S. ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee joked to embassy staff about procreating while sheltering in place on Tuesday in a memo one U.S. official described as “awkward” and “odd.”

I added UVA to the enrollment tracker.
I'm now up to 14 institutions that have published demographic data on this year's freshman class.
By Oct 9, 2024, 33 had published data.
I relaunched the post-SFFA enrollment tracker for the class of 2029.
What took so long? Very few colleges & universities have published class profiles.
At this point last year, I had 33 places in the tracker. This year I have 13. jamessmurphy.com/2025/09/15/…
