Had a blast traipsing around Watkins Glen, New York today, hiking the gorge, taking a scenic boat tour on Seneca Lake (one of the Finger Lakes), and stopping at Ben & Jerry’s for a milk and cookies shake. Beautiful day.

Gorge Trail at Watkins Glen State Park. 17 waterfalls within one mile of trail, including two you walk under. We chased them all.

Had a great time today at the meeting of the Reformation Society of West New York. I delivered two messages explicating law/gospel distinction and got to meet some hardworking pastors from all over the region ministering faithfully in hard soil.

I love both of you brothers, but this isn’t true (Paul’s baptism wasn’t spontaneous, for instance). But even if it was, I’m not sure contextual considerations don’t mitigate turning Acts descriptions into 21st century suburban Bible Belt prescriptions.

I agree totally. Every baptism in Acts was spontaneous. I guess those don’t count?

I think more of us might be more open to “spontaneous baptisms,” if we knew:
a) those baptized were received into meaningful membership, per NT model
b) churches practicing could attest to baptized spiritual state in years ensuing
c) baptized received adequate pastoral care
