Obidients Rejoice as Court Orders ADC Deregistration, Say Obi Escaped a Major Political Setback
Supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have taken to social media to express relief and gratitude following a Federal High Court ruling ordering the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties.
The judgment, delivered on Monday by Justice Peter Lifu in Abuja, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister ADC, Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), Action Peoples Party (APP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) for allegedly failing to meet constitutional requirements for political parties.
Reacting to the development, many Obi supporters, popularly known as Obidients, described his earlier departure from the ADC as a timely decision. Several supporters claimed the ruling vindicated Obi's political judgment and spared him potential uncertainty ahead of future elections.
The suit was filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators, which argued that the affected parties failed to secure the required electoral performance stipulated by law.
Justice Lifu also ordered that the parties should not participate in future elections, including the 2027 general elections.
However, political observers note that the ruling may still be subject to appeal, while INEC is expected to study the judgment and determine the next course of action.
