For more than 25 years, South African partners like Population Services International and @matchboxology, supported by the Gates Foundation, have worked together to expand access to HIV prevention, treatment, and care.
Across South Africa, community-led programs like Coach Mpilo are helping men overcome stigma, stay on HIV treatment, and take charge of their health.

Look in the mirror and ask yourself: If I had to give up Social Media or AI for the rest of my life, which one would I REALLY choose? Share with the rest of us what you really decided after looking yourself in the eyes?

In many communities, sensitive public health are often shrouded in silence. Overcoming these barriers requires innovative approaches that prioritise empathy, trust, and cultural sensitivity.
By involving the community in every step, from identifying problems to co-creating solutions, our team ensures that interventions are not only effective but also culturally appropriate and sustainable.
At the heart of human-centered design lies a profound appreciation that diverse communities are not just places, but living, breathing entities that empower us to thrive and remain resilient in the face of personal challenges.
During times of adversity, collective resilience uplifts an individual’s spirit and fuels their resilience. By tapping into the expertise of a community of individuals, we’ve seen our style of HCD improve an individual’s ability to thrive in the face of life’s challenges.
The B-OK bead bottles are a simple visual tool for helping people understand what antiretrovirals do and what viral suppression is. People need to know this because when they understand, they can stay motivated to start and stay on treatment.
The toolkit is three simple small bottles filled with a mix of red and black beads in different ratios that are an analogy for what's happening inside your body with HIV.
In a joint Indlela/Coach Mpilo Project, incorporating the B-OK Kit showed that awareness of U = U (Undetectable = Untransmittable) increased from 7% to 99%.
Big thanks to our friends at the University of Pennsylvania who not only tested our B-OK tool in the US, but also produced this nifty video for healthcare providers. No HIV clinic should be without it.

Reflecting on our incredible journey throughout 2023! As the year zips past us, we wanted to hit the brakes and take you on a tour of the amazing countries we’ve worked in. Each country has its own unique story, and we’ve been privileged to be a part of it.
As human-centered designers, we acknowledge the significance of these small yet meaningful acts of caring, because it has the potential to profoundly shape the user experience and, ultimately, to turn lives around.
In creating solutions, we must not only focus on functionality and efficiency but also prioritise the fundamental human elements that elevate our designs from mere products to impactful, compassionate experiences.
