Tired: revoking licenses because networks aren’t pro-trump.
Wired: revoking licenses if they put an NFL game on their “ ” plan streaming instead of broadcast
Broadcast licenses are not sacred cows.
These media companies are required by law to operate in the public interest. If they don’t, they are going to be held accountable, as the Communications Act requires.
If @nbc isn’t using it’s broadcast spectrum for content that’s of public interest (like the #Eagles vs #packers ) maybe we should find a better use of that free spectrum we’re giving them @FCC
The California grid is using historically little natural gas during the day and evening. That's great 🥳. But there are other parts of this story worth watching too.
🧵
In 2024, natural gas generation on an average April day in California hit a 7-year low.
This is a significant trend reversal from what we saw from 2021 to 2023 in CAISO.
So the question: as demand rises, if there's already limited transmission capacity and curtailment, what fuel is going to provide more power? Last year, in the middle of the day, it was gas.
2 takeaways for me: solar batteries are setting records meeting evening peak demand, and:
it's possible that gas is used to meet midday demand through May and June due to transmission constraints

If the path of totality were a state, its 11.9M locations would be 8% unserved and underserved by #broadband. It would be the 19th best connected state in the country
There's been an active debate on "network slicing" as part of #netneutrality . It appears the @FCC is encouraging this innovation but putting everyone on notice that it can't be used to evade Open Internet rules. #compromise wins the day
The FCC must reconsider its approach here and determine whether #netneutrality regulations are necessary. There is no market case for its measures and they could foreclose on an innovative option that can save lives by prioritizing emergency services, like network slicing can. In this blog, I argue the FCC should slice its proposed broadband regulations, not our #5G networks.

It's been really interesting to watch the @California_ISO power grid. They're having to curtail a ton of solar due to transmission congestion. Wrote up some thoughts (so far) of what I've noticed: mikeconlow.substack.com/p/so…
Gas isn't meeting [all] the demand where solar was curtailed. So even though the grid is a net exporter, they are likely using imports where solar can't reach due to transmission congestion
Kudos to @SenTedCruz & @SenateCommerce for this in-depth review and report of @NTIAgov's BEAD funding and structure so far. Every Federal broadband dollar must go through deepest scrutiny. This report (and future work) is incredibly valuable to minimize duplication and waste.
