The Oxbridge boat race debate is becoming eerily similar to the whole NCAA "unprofessional" athletes debate. I'm all for Unis having athletes compete for them but lets not pretend that Olympic level athletes are "amateurs". Make it a professional boat race and pay the athletes!

As it stands, the whole "behind the scenes" arms race between Oxford and Cambridge recruiting professional athletes for an "amateur" competition is stupid. Not only is it disrespectful to the sport but also to the whole academic integrity of the Universities.

If they're here for sports than say it! Don't pretend that some of them (of course not all them) somehow got in on academic merit when they really didn't.

If you want to be a new digital history communicator you're better off starting on YouTube. Yes, you were more likely to find an audience on TikTok/Insta in around 2020 but in 2025 there are actually more dead channels, i.e. people who didn't make it, on TikTok than on YouTube.
