We're the largest union of journalists, media workers and activists in North America. We've been holding power to account and defending democracy since 1933.
We are excited for this historic institution to survive!
A lot is still unsettled and we will continue to support our members who are fighting to be paid back from the Block’s illegal behavior.
That liability does not go away with the sale of the paper.
Union journalists at the Minnesota Star Tribune are losing their jobs. Donate to our layoff fund to help them navigate what comes next.

We had our first bargaining session on Zoom on June 1, with the support of dozens of unionized Hearst Newspapers colleagues from @AlbanyGuild, @AustinNewsGuild, @DallasNewsGuild and @SFCGuild Chronicle Guild.
Here's (some of) what the bargaining committee said:
In the meantime, some of the journalists who Hearst has fired for unsubstantiated and unclear reasons need our help to get by and support their families now that they are unemployed.
Please consider helping them out here: gofund.me/77e05d0d1
Happy Friday! Have you supported a labor action today? If not, no worries - take one minute to send a letter to Lee Enterprise execs demanding fair pay for the journalists at the @owhguild: actionnetwork.org/letters/wa…#1u
If it seems to you like there are fewer journalists covering Connecticut, you’re right.
This week, those ranks grew thinner: Hearst CT unjustly fired a highly experienced reporter who was respected by his peers, sources and readers.
When @PioneerPress contract negotiations start in a few minutes, local management/editors won’t be at the table. They live here, they’re on our side and want to hire more reporters at higher wages. Alden Global Capital, a hedge fund, has flown in corporate attorneys from California. That ain’t St. Paul!
“If we want to control what happens to our byline, that’s the company telling us that we need to form a union. So, hey, let’s do it.”
And they did.

Today was Day 1 of negotiations with the Pioneer Press/AdTaxi and its hedge-fund owner, Alden Global Capital.
Local news is essential to our community and our democracy! PiPress workers deserve a union contract that delivers fair pay, safety, and respect.
Congratulations to three @CapTimes journalists on receiving fellowships to pursue specialty projects this year!
We're proud to celebrate their work and fight for systems that help talented journalists build long-term careers at the Cap Times.

ALT A navy blue card with white text. The text says: We will fight for our members who have been affected by these layoffs and will ensure Minute Media follows all the provisions of our new contract. We know how much our brand and its history means to so many of you, and we won't stop fighting for everything that the SI name should mean.
ALT A navy blue card with a white header, providing an update from the SI Union. The text says: A LITTLE OVER a week ago, Sports Illustrated management laid off nine of our members, including three colleagues who had been with SI for over a decade and our entire golf vertical.
This devastating action came less than a month after we ratified a new contract with SI's current operator, Minute Media. We were pleased to reach a three-year deal that raised wages, improved medical benefits and parental leave, protected against AT's creep into our work, preserved our remote work flexibility and much more.
“This bill is an important first step,” said our president @susandecarava of the NY FAIR News Act, which would force media companies to be transparent when artificial intelligence is used in news content. More here....nyguild.org/post/statement-f…
(1/5): Two summers ago we wrote our proposal for our first contract — the one we’re still bargaining over as management continues to drag their feet through negotiations with us.
Exciting news from Albany! The NY #FAIRNews Act, which requires clear disclaimers when AI is used in any published news content, passed in both the Senate and Assembly. 👏Thanks to Sen. @PatriciaFahy46 & Assm. @Nily for championing this bill.
Buffalo Newspaper Guild members, along with their friends and family, were proud to march in this year's Buffalo Pride Parade and show our continued support for our diverse community, LGBTQ civil rights, and freedom of expression for all!
Shuttering E&E News goes directly against what @politico@POLITICOPro management told staff earlier this year, when our colleagues were asked to consider buyouts. A message from PEN Guild leadership 👇
Heard from a lot of loyal readers asking if we're OK this morning following news that @politico plans to kill the @EENewsUpdates brand. There's still a lot of questions. Here's what we've told management so far:

New: Politico is folding E&E, the energy trade publication it bought in 2020.
The company says it is reorganizing its energy coverage under the Politico brand and launching a series of new state and global energy newsletters.
Bad-faith bargaining is bad for business. After we went on strike, a major advertiser halted ad buys in solidarity. We are asking others to do the same until McClatchy Media comes to the table with a fair offer.
