Dewhurst’s Cotton Mill, also known as Belle Vue Mill, played a major role in Skipton’s industrial history for more than 150 years.
Built in 1829 beside the Leeds–Liverpool Canal, the mill was ideally placed to receive raw cotton by boat and send finished goods across the country and around the world.
Over time, it became one of Skipton’s largest employers, producing yarns and sewing threads that gained an international reputation – including the popular Sylko thread, sold in hundreds of colours worldwide.
