PROcalcitonin and NEWS2 evaluation for Timely identification of sepsis and Optimal use of antibiotics in the Emergency Department @LivUni & @CTRCardiffUni
PRONTO trial - procalcitonin in sepsis. Great to hear the confusing initial results.
CRASH2 taught us the importance of planning a subgroup analysis based on underlying condition in EM trials - hopefully this will be in the PRONTO publication due early 2025.
@Pronto_Trial
Good morning! Analysis begins next week and site close down is due to commence.
A couple of reminders:
• Please pack your study tablets ready for collection.
• Please ensure you send any remaining data queries back to our data manager (just a couple more left).
Thank you!
Great news but we’re still missing much needed information on utility of POC tests to enable targeted and ‘appropriate’ use of antibiotics at the front door. @Pronto_Trial is now in analysis phase and will report later this year.
Our updated guidance on recognising, diagnosing and the early management of suspected sepsis recommends more targeting of antibiotics to those at the highest risk.

It’s the end of #WAAW2023 & we’ve been highlighting work from our infections division at @CTRCardiffUni. #AMR & antimicrobial stewardship needs to be at forefront of our minds. We need better diagnostics, implemented quickly once evidence exists for better patient outcomes.
As part of #WAAW2023 let us congratulate our lead PPI rep Julie who completed the Conwy Half Marathon this weekend to raise awareness (and money) for the @UKSepsisTrust. Julie is a sepsis survivor and an inspiration to many. We work with Julie on other @CTRCardiffUni studies too!
You should all be receiving your Hotel Chocolat advent calendars now! Here are some more happy recipients, this time from @EDRSCH @RaquelAkieme @MartinLlewelyn
Very well deserved guys! Now hold out until December 1st.

So proud of our amazing team! Thank you our ED colleagues too who played a massive part in this huge achievement! They are engaged and supportive of research which is half the battle and without them we could not have achieved this. 💕💕
As we concentrate our efforts on data queries, another special mention goes to our lead site overall, Royal Liverpool University Hospital, @LivHospitals, who recruited a total of 1,256 patients into PRONTO! Wonderful effort from all. Thank you!

Each and every site has contributed to the amazing success of PRONTO but a special thanks goes to @UHDBTrust, our first site to open and who worked tirelessly throughout to recruit 1,511 patients (a smidge under 20 % of our target). Outstanding
Moving towards a national system of PEWS will help improve patient safety, efficacy and quality of care.

It would be gratefully appreciated if you can share this advert or pass on information to patients for participation in the @EnhancStudy. It only entails a quick chat with the quali researcher. Please email Hannah.Doughty@liverpool.ac.uk if you can help!
