It’s about what you’re for – a society where the needs and well-being of the people and planet are planned for and guaranteed. That’s called socialism. It’s not enough to be angry – we must be organized! Join an organization and fight for the future we need and deserve! 🔗PSLweb.org/join

A trillion is roughly three times the total number of stars in the entire Milky Way galaxy. It is enough money to make one million people millionaires. It is enough to rebuild the entire Gaza Strip after Israel’s genocidal destruction of it 14 times.

No individual should be allowed to accumulate a billion dollars worth of wealth, much less a trillion. That wealth is created by working people, and it is our right to put that wealth under the democratic control of working people.

Jail killer cops!
A police officer in Senatobia, Mississippi shot and killed one-year-old Kohen Wiley in a Wal-Mart parking lot over an alleged shoplifting incident. This is just the latest in a long list of violent incidents involving Senatobia police over the years.

At Saturday’s Haiti vs. Scotland game, BT asked Providence’s Haitian community about their thoughts on how Trump’s immigration policies have impacted the World Cup. They slammed the administration’s sweeping visa restrictions and border security crackdown, which have resulted in fans, players, and officials being shut out of the tournament. One fan also criticized FIFA’s rejection of the Haitian team’s original jerseys which featured artwork depicting the country’s revolutionary history, stating, “When you see Haiti, you see Black liberation. You see what human beings can overcome.”

Textbooks teach us that Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation “freed the slaves” in 1863. But a decree alone freed no one. What ended slavery in the South was a powerful movement. During the Civil War, enslaved people waged what W.E.B. DuBois called a general strike; paralyzing the Confederate economy by abandoning plantations en masse. Hundreds of thousands of Black soldiers joined the Union Army to fight for the freedom of all Black people. Today, as we prepare to celebrate 161 years since the abolition of slavery on June 19, Black communities are still terrorized by police violence and disproportionately deprived of decent housing, healthcare, education, and jobs in a capitalist system that turns basic necessities into commodities to flip for profits. The racist spirit of the Confederacy is still alive and has found a home in the Trump administration, which is accelerating attacks against Black civil rights: eliminating DEI programs eliminated by executive order, purging Black workers from federal jobs, shutting down civil rights investigations. In the wake of the Supreme Court gutting the Voting Rights Act, Republican-led states from Texas to Louisiana to Alabama are racing to dismantle majority-Black districts — an attempt to roll back a century of social progress. To end the war on Black America once and for all, we must end the rule of the billionaires. Ever since the days of slavery, the elites in this country have profited off the backs of Black people. They have also seen Black peoples’ social movements as a threat to their power. That is why the abolitionist and Civil Rights movements were met with such resistance, and why the gains of those movements are constantly under attack by the racist elite. Today, let us remember that no one freed the slaves but themselves –– and in our continued movement for Black liberation, understand that no one will hand it to us. It must be fought for. 🚨Carolina Water is raising bills by FORTY PERCENT! Last month, the North Carolina Utilities Commission approved a request by Carolina Water for a massive 40% rate hike — even higher than the company initially asked for. This is the same regulatory body that will soon be deciding if Duke Energy can raise rates by 18%. Corporations should not be allowed to profit even more at a time when working people are struggling to make ends meet and we're dealing with a severe drought. We need a system where electricity and water is treated as a human right — not that approves outrageous rate hikes for greedy corporations.

Elon Musk has become the world's first trillionaire, robbing the rest of us blind as he laughs his way to the bank. Unionists told us what they make of this so-called milestone for humanity, and what we need to do to ensure we never have another trillionaire again.

Trump has "surged" another 1,500 National Guard troops into Washington, D.C., adding to those occupying the city since the federal takeover last August and bringing the total to roughly 5,000 soldiers. This is soft-launching martial law on the streets of D.C. as soldiers garrison downtown with armored vehicles and conduct armed patrols down every neighborhood street, on Metro trains, and carry out forceful arrests and detentions targeting mainly Black and brown youth. The federal occupation is part of Trump's racist theater aimed at mobilizing his far-right base around law & order and a racist fear of our neighbors. This is meant to divide the working class against itself as Trump and his billionaire and trillionaire friends strip mine the public wealth of our society. With the America 250 celebrations approaching, the racism dial had been turned up even more. We reject racism and division, and the notion that federal and military occupation keeps us safe. All Feds and troops out of D.C. now!

“When the moment comes to choose between comfort and conscience, choose conscience.” Pro-Palestine activist Mahmoud Khalil delivered a speech to Stanford graduates at a "People's Commencement" Sunday after their mass walkout during graduation. The graduates' walkout occurred during Google CEO Sundar Pichai's commencement speech, as a protest against the tech company's contracts with the IDF, CBP, and ICE. Khalil, who was detained last year by ICE for over three months for his role as lead negotiator at Columbia University's Gaza Solidarity Encampments, urged the students to keep building the movement for Palestine, assuring them, "History remembers those who speak up." This year marked the third People’s Commencement at Stanford, organized by students and activist groups.

🏳️‍🌈Every June, millions of people look forward to Pride Month as a time to celebrate LGBTQ people for who they are. But Pride was not always a mainstream celebration; it was fought for! The roots of Pride are in resistance — people standing up against discrimination, police harassment, and laws that targeted LGBTQ people. Today, after years of hard-won progress, LGBTQ people, especially transgender people, have become targets of a new wave of attacks from politicians and right-wing organizations. These attacks aren't just about one community — they’re part of a broader effort to divide ordinary people so that we blame each other for the issues we face, instead of the billionaires who are the real cause! The LGBTQ movement has won important victories over the years not because powerful people suddenly decided to do the right thing, but because ordinary people organized, protested, and fought back. Every major right, from workplace protections to marriage equality, was won through collective action. Pride is both a time to celebrate and to remember that lesson of history! PRIDE MEANS FIGHT BACK!

As we approach 161 years since the abolition of slavery this Juneteenth, let us ask ourselves: What must we do to end the war on Black America, once and for all? Tune in this Thursday to discuss this question and more ⤵️
✊🏾JUNETEENTH WEBINAR, THURS, JUNE 18, 8PM ET/5PM PT: Join us for a necessary webinar discussion on Juneteenth and the fight for Black liberation today. Register: bit.ly/psljuneteenth This June 19 marks 161 years since the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were officially declared free. All across the country, Juneteenth celebrations are commemorating this historic milestone of the Black liberation movement. As Trump and the far-right ramp up their attacks on working people broadly in an attempt to rewrite our history and strip us of our civil rights entirely, we are confronted with a critical question: what must we do to end the war on Black America, once and for all? Originally born from the struggle for abolition, Juneteenth was made into a federal holiday in 2021 in the aftermath of the valiant struggle against racist police terror. Juneteenth reminds us of the will that our people have always had to fight, the role that fight has historically played in achieving the basic rights we have today, and the necessary role of organization in our ongoing fights for freedom. Hear and discuss with PSL organizers and cultural workers Claudia De la Cruz (NYC), Jasmine Nicole Williams (Atlanta), Rachel Domond (Houston) and Saidi Moseley (NYC) on the real history of the struggle for Black liberation in the U.S. and what it will fundamentally require of all of us to achieve it today. Trump’s birthday spectacle on the White House lawn cost $60 million. Meanwhile, 1 in 3 in the U.S. skip meals in order to afford healthcare. The cost of basic necessities are through the roof, pushing working people to the brink. Trump’s personalized UFC fight was a spectacle intended to distract us from the catastrophe of Trump's pro-billionaire, pro-war policies — an all out war on the working class.

🚨PSL STATEMENT — Two cowards set off an explosive outside the home of Ald. Byron Sigcho Lopez at 12:45am on Saturday. We stand with Byron against this act of anti-socialist terrorism! The explosion, which occurred while Byron's three children slept inside, shattered windows and damaged the facade of the building. Video evidence shows two men exiting an SUV to place and light what appears to be a large firework on the corner outside his home. Thankfully, no one was injured. This should be seen for what it is — an act of political terror meant to intimidate an independent socialist. Without speculating, this attack comes as Byron is fighting the Democratic machine for ballot access. Byron is currently running for Congress in Illinois fourth district as an independent socialist. He is fighting to abolish ICE terror, for average Americans to have access to healthcare and to end the billionaire control of society. There is a long history of political terror against the socialist movement that seeks to extinguish working people's dreams of a better world. But they will not succeed. Instead of backing down, we will organize harder. Instead of shutting up, we will shout louder. Instead of submitting to fear, we will build power. The bombs of the past did not stop the labor movement from winning the eight hour day, or the Civil Rights Movement from expanding democracy and they will not stop the socialist movement. We call on all our comrades, allies, and community members to stand with Ald. Byron Sigcho Lopez at this moment!
