My new song takes us back to the early Poolside mindset: combining sounds and genres that shouldn’t ever be in the same room together. 80s New Age 2010s trap with Poolside vibes. This song is something sonically that we had never made before, nostalgic, but without the longing - like the closing credits to a film. Poolside started as a refusal to fit in. That refusal shaped every record since 2012. Five albums, each one shaped visually by an artist who understood the moment. This era belongs to @williamapan When we met each other at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, I was djing the closing night of the David Hockney exhibition - notably an artist who deeply influenced Poolside sound and aesthetic. Jeff always told he needed to be a new person to write new music, and for better or worse this year forced our hand in that respect. 🥹 It’s been an incredible year of change…and here we are: a new song that marks the transition, where we finally started to come up for air and feel alive again. We stole away to Europe this past summer, looking for that spark of joy and creativity. He found it in a foggy London studio, and he threw out everything he’d been working on prior. I found it dancing in the car as he played it for me on his phone later that night. Otherside by @poolside.
