The Okotoks Dawgs came through in the clutch late for an important 10-6 victory over the Swift Current 57s. The Dawgs now extend their winning streak to four, tied for their longest of the season. The Dawgs did not explode offensively as they have in games past, but they got solid pitching and some timely hits to put them over the top.
The Dawgs’ timely offence on the night was led by another standout performance by Jayden Lusk (Vernon College), who went 1 for 3 at the plate, but drove in a pair with a 2 RBI double to the gap in the 4th. Connor Crowson (Tennessee Tech University) was another big part of the offensive output, also going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, a walk, and coming around to score twice. Jeremy Kuiper (Chandler Gilbert Community College) also had an amazing day from the plate, going 3 for 4 with a homerun and 3 RBI.
Jordan Kievman had a remarkable night as he was the Dawgs starting pitcher and also hit 5th in the lineup. He threw 3 shutout innings in his first start of the year, giving up just one hit. Kievman also had himself a couple hits, going 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and coming around to score in the 6th.
Dalton Hoffart (Hill College) had another great performance out of the bullpen, limiting the damage in the 6th and shutting down the threat in a scoreless inning of work. The wind picked up as the night went on, but the Dawgs turned to Max McRaray (University of Houston) for the 7th and 8th and he shut down any attempts at a comeback. McRaray threw 2 innings, allowing just 1 run and notching 5 strikeouts in a dominant performance.
The Dawgs’ incredible pitching persistent offence clinched the game late as they now move to 9-3 on the year. They turn their attention now to their next home matchup tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, June 13, when they welcome the Energy City Cactus Rats in an afternoon affair at 2:05 p.m. Saturday night also marks the annual Futures Game at Seaman Stadium, featuring the brightest young stars in the Dawgs Academy.
