The issue with the 9mm staking contract is an example of the risks of upgradable proxy contracts. In this situation the contract used by users was presumably safe, but the admin keys that have the priveledge to upgrade the proxy were compromised. This led to those admin keys transferring admin privileges to a new address which was able to point the proxy to a new implementation contract which was programmed to send all the 9mm to the new admin’s address. When you’re interacting with an upgradable proxy what this means is you are interacting with the latest active implementation address that the proxy admin set. If the proxy admin is compromised or simply makes a mistake, you are at risk.
