Canada may be in a recession, but Alberta sure isn't 💥 Thanks to having no PST, the lowest corporate taxes in Canada, aggressively cutting red tape, and a relentless focus on keeping Alberta affordable, we continue to be the economic engine of the country. More evidence that Alberta can keep growing and thriving in an uncertain world 📈

It was great to join industry leaders at the Global Energy Show this week to talk about Canada's nuclear supply chain and the work underway to advance nuclear energy in Alberta. Through our recent public engagement on nuclear energy, we heard a lot of positivity around nuclear energy from Albertans, but there were also thoughtful questions about how safety, emergency preparedness and environmental impacts would be addressed. This feedback will help inform and guide the development of a nuclear energy roadmap in the months ahead.

This year’s gathering of energy leaders from across the word for both the Global Energy Show and World Geothermal Conference in Calgary comes at a pivotal moment. The world is hungry for secure, reliable energy, and the geopolitical uncertainty we’re seeing only reinforces that reality. Alberta has what the world needs, and we’re creating the conditions for investment, growth, and long-term prosperity so we can deliver.

Nuclear energy has incredible potential to meet Alberta's growing electricity demands. Had some great discussions with industry leaders and innovators from across the country and beyond about how to enable this industry in our province on Day 2 of the Global Energy Show in Calgary.

The federal government’s decision to extend its firearms amnesty once again is an admission that its firearm confiscation scheme is ineffective and deeply flawed. Ottawa should make the amnesty permanent and abandon its plan to confiscate legally acquired firearms from law-abiding Canadians. Gun confiscation programs will never stop gang violence, cross-border gun smuggling, and the criminal misuse of firearms. We will continue to use every lawful tool at our disposal to shield Albertans from any form of firearms confiscation. Alberta believes in a principled, evidence-based approach to firearms policy that targets violent criminals and illegal guns, not responsible firearms owners who follow the law. (And yes. That is a picture of me skeet shooting with friends.)

It was great to join industry leaders and innovators in Calgary during Day 1 of the Global Energy Show for an insightful conversation on power generation and enabling AI data centres. Alberta's skilled electricity sector has decades of experience in finding innovative solutions to meet industry's power needs, and they're already bringing that innovative spirit to this emerging industry.

The world has come to Calgary this week. The Global Energy Show brings together investors, innovators, policymakers, and energy leaders from around the globe, and there is no better place to host it than Alberta. Our province is home to some of the world's largest energy reserves, the most skilled workforce in the industry, and a growing pipeline of major projects that will help meet global demand for decades to come. The world needs more Canadian energy. Alberta is ready to deliver it.

ICYMI: For too long, Alberta and Quebec have been portrayed as adversaries. The reality is that strong provinces make for a stronger Canada. By working together, defending our constitutional jurisdiction, and advancing our shared economic interests, we can achieve far more than either province can alone. Let’s get to work.

On this day in 1944, thousands of Allied soldiers - including nearly 14,000 Canadians -stormed the beaches of Normandy, including Juno Beach. The sacrifice of these brave soldiers - and the service of many locals from the Okotoks and Foothills County areas during the Normandy campaign - helped protect our freedom and the country we call home. Today we remember and honour them. Lest we forget.

🚨 STATEMENT ON COMMUNITY SAFETY 🚨 I want to sincerely acknowledge the safety concerns that many constituents of Highwood have shared with me. As both your elected representative and a fellow member of this community, I take these concerns extremely seriously. I understand that issues surrounding safety and security can have a profound impact, particularly in small communities where a sense of trust and well-being is essential to our quality of life. The feelings of fear and uncertainty that can arise when safety is threatened are not taken lightly. Please know that your voices have been heard, and I am committed to fostering a safe and secure environment for all community members. While this matter is before the courts, it would be inappropriate for me to comment. Looking beyond individual cases, I remain a strong advocate for meaningful reforms within our justice system. I support stronger bail measures, a stop to the catch-and-release, revolving-door criminal system, and comprehensive justice reforms that deliver appropriate consequences for offenders and better protection for our communities. Those who repeatedly break the law must face real consequences to discourage further offences and restore public confidence in our justice system. Bail reform and criminal law is solely a federal issue, and we urgently need policy changes that specifically address the challenge of repeat offenders. I will continue to work collaboratively with my colleagues at all levels of government to ensure the concerns of residents in Highwood are heard and federal laws reflect the needs and concerns of communities like ours. I also encourage all residents to remain vigilant, look out for one another, and cooperate with local law enforcement whenever possible. Your engagement and communication are crucial components of a safer community. As always, I welcome your continued feedback and invite you to reach out with any further concerns or suggestions. Together, we can advocate for the changes needed to ensure our community remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

One Card. That’s it. Starting July 2, Albertans can get a new driver’s licence or ID card that includes their healthcare number and proof of citizenship, all on one secure card at no additional cost. No more flimsy paper cards. No more carrying multiple pieces of ID. Just a common-sense change that makes life easier.

I’m looking forward to meeting with Premier Christine Fréchette @CFrechette in Quebec over the next two days. Alberta and Quebec have a tremendous opportunity to work together to advance nation-building projects, strengthen Canada’s economy, and finally move forward on the infrastructure and trade corridors our country should have built years ago. When provinces lead, great things can happen. The possibilities are endless. Read the full story here: theglobeandmail.com/canada/a…
