ALT News: From May 20–22, an academic conference exploring the philosophies and friendship of the late Kyrgyz novelist Chingiz Aitmatov and Daisaku Ikeda was held in Kyrgyzstan. Their friendship gave rise to the published dialogue Ode to the Grand Spirit. The conference spanned three venues, including the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic in the capital, Bishkek. A Soka Gakkai delegation from Japan attended alongside scholars, students and officials, including Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Ulan Mamatkanov.
