Today, we mark 30 years since the passing of Professor Alex Mowat – a true pioneer who transformed care for children with liver disease, and whose impact continues to shape the work we support at King’s.
Alex’s legacy lives on through the Alex Mowat PhD Studentship. Over the past three decades, this programme has supported ten exceptional PhD students, each helping drive forward discoveries that improve the lives of children and families. We’re incredibly proud to play a part in sustaining this legacy, and we look forward to welcoming the 11th Alex Mowat PhD student soon.
We’re also proud to be a major funder of the MowatLabs – the dedicated paediatric research laboratories created in 2016 thanks to over £1.25 million of generous philanthropic support. Based within the Institute of Liver Studies, the MowatLabs bring together world-leading clinicians, researchers and surgeons to push forward vital research in children’s liver disease.
Their work is also opening new doors in children’s respiratory medicine, gastroenterology and sickle cell disease – helping us move closer to better treatments, better outcomes and brighter futures.
We’re honoured to celebrate Alex Mowat’s remarkable legacy, the progress made over 30 years, and the continued power of research to change lives. Here’s to the next chapter of discovery.
