On what would have been his 104th birthday, we celebrate the icon that was Charlie Sifford. As the first African American golfer on the PGA TOUR, Charlie paved the way for other non-white golfers to compete on TOUR.
Awarded since 2009, the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption has represented the advancement of diversity in the game of golf. The exemption is awarded to a deserving golfer from a minority background to compete in The Genesis Invitational. The exemption continues Sifford’s legacy by recognizing players whose journeys reflect the power of opportunity, perseverance, and progress in the game of golf.
