Nature conservation needs more than good intentions; it needs funding.
In ๐ฐ๐ฟ, @UNDP#BIOFIN is helping turn biodiversity into a development priority: PA public financing has grown from $22.5M to $71.8M, strengthening protection across 31.1 mln ha of nature. #ForPeopleForPlanet
.@UNDP, led by ResRep in ๐ฐ๐ฟ met with Kazakhstanโs Minister of Internal Affairs Yerzhan Sadenov in Astana to discuss cooperation on police reform.
Focus: dataโdriven approaches, AI tools, international expertise, and strengthening prevention & cybercrime response for safer communities.

On #WorldEnvironmentDay, protecting forests means investing in their future. In Kazakhstan, more than 2.3 mln ha of high conservation value forests have been mapped, a national forest seed bank established, & foresters are continuously trained to strengthen biodiversity & climate resilience.

W/GPS-enabled smartphones, SMART Mobile, & satellite connection in remote areas, biodiversity conservation is becoming data-driven, efficient & responsive. W/UNDP, @GEF support SMART patrols across 12 protected areas help rangers collect, analyze data in real time & protect nature
#ForPeopleForPlanet#GEFAssembly2026
Nature needs space to survive. @theGEF support helped Kazakhstan create & expand 12 protected areas, establish ecological corridors spanning 2.9 mln ha, and strengthen habitats for wildlife across the country. Along-term investment in biodiversity continues to deliver results #ForPeopleForPlanet#GEFAssembly2026
Where does the snow leopard travel?
With support from @theGEF, the UNDP, and the Government of Kazakhstan, equipped scientists with satellite telemetry, camera traps, and drones to track these elusive species.
#GEFAssembly2026#ForPeopleForPlanet
Firstly, back in 2021, 11 snow leopards were fitted w/ GPS trackers, helping researchers monitor their habitats & migration routes across Kazakhstan & beyond.
Today, Kazakhstanโs snow leopard population is estimated at 152โ189 individuals, with around 70% living in protected areas.

Can long-term environmental projects shape national policy?
Over the past 20 years, @theGEF-supported initiatives implemented w/UNDP have helped conserve Kazakhstanโs steppes, forests, deserts, mountains, and wetlands. Six major programmes laid the foundation for a more systematic approach to biodiversity conservation.
#GEFAssembly2026#ForPeoleForPlanet
A major milestone came in 2025, when Kazakhstan adopted its Concept for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity - the countryโs first strategic document of this scale dedicated to nature.
Today, biodiversity conservation is no longer a collection of standalone projects, but part of a broader national policy agenda.
#GEFAssembly2026#ForPeoleForPlanet
From 30 May to 6 June, #GEFAssembly2026 unites government officials from 186 member countries, environmental leaders, policymakers, civil society, the private sector, & youth from around the world to shape priorities for global environmental action #ForPeopleForPlanet
Bias doesnโt always show up as discrimination. More often, it sounds like โcommon senseโ:
๐น "men are better leaders"
๐น "care work is for women"
๐น "some jobs are for men"
Nearly 9 in 10 people worldwide still hold biases against women.
These everyday assumptions shape real outcomes โ who gets supported, promoted, listened to.
They influence education, jobs, income, and safetyโฆ including whether violence is dismissed or challenged.
Thatโs why CHANGE works across Central Asia โ supported by the @EUinKazakhstan and implemented by @UNDP , @UNFPA, and @UN_Women โ to prevent violence, shift harmful norms, and expand opportunities.
These are the kinds of conversations we brought to #EuroFest2026 โ where people shared ideas, challenged stereotypes, and reflected on what equality means in practice.
