Bad writing is hard to see (quite literally!). A page from The Da Vinci Code looks pretty much the same as a page from The Catcher in the Rye. – Nice point, @dpieracci!

.@dpieracci starting off with a strong analogy: When renovating an apartment, we would not think to redo the whole thing and then expecting the craftsperson to fix it. But as writers, that happens to us all the time. WHY?

Small but important tip from @1aura1opez for when you’re interviewing: it’s okay to ask for a quick breather if you need one – especially if it's a really long interview day – ask for a quick water break!
