A certain prime minister yesterday described orange coloured cornflower thrown over StoneHenge as ‘a disgraceful act of vandalism’ – and called on me to condemn it. Today, I call on him to condemn a greater harm to the Stones – the proposed road tunnel underneath the site. This was approved by his government, against the advice of the Planning Inspectorate, who warned of ‘permanent and irreversible harm.’ The effects of this tunnel will not wash away next time it rains. And Sunak’s criticism yesterday of JSO, while he himself is responsible for a far greater harm to the Stones, marks him out as a hypocrite.
