It was a historic morning at the Hillsborough County fall sports awards downtown as Jesuit swept the two football awards!
The Jimbo Kynes Award for Most Outstanding Lineman was presented to Anthony Rametta '26, and the Guy Toph Award, the "Hillsborough County Heisman," was awarded to Will Griffin '26!
Rametta and Griffin led Jesuit to an 11-2 record and a record-setting season on offense, as Griffin became the Tampa Bay area's all-time leader in passing yardage while throwing a school-record 37 TDs this season and just 2 interceptions.
Rametta, a 3-year starter, plowed open holes for a powerful Jesuit running game that had two backs average a whopping 9.9 yards per carry.
Rametta, who signed with the U.S. Naval Academy, is the first from Jesuit to receive the Kynes Award since Pat Browning '95 in 1994, the first season the trophy was awarded.
The legendary Guy Toph Award is believed to be America's oldest continuously awarded prep sports award, established in 1939. In 1975, Skipper Peek '76 became the first from a private school to receive the Guy Toph, and Griffin is now the 6th winner from Jesuit (most of any private school), joining Peek, Al Lopez III '82, Gary Godsey '99, Malik Davis '17, and Willy Suarez '24. Griffin's father, Nick, accepted the award on his behalf as Griffin is at the University of Florida.
