This idea that leadership should not get involved in the details might be the worst idea in business. Because there will always be, by definition, many more detail-level items than big-picture items, most potential causes of failure will be details. People mistakenly believe leaders shouldn't spend brain cycles on details because they shouldn't *act* at the level of details. OK, you usually don't want executives to literally tighten a bolt themselves, but you do want them to think about that bolt, to care about that bolt, and to ask questions about that bolt.

Excited for @TheOceanCleanup to come to the Manila Bay region! Today we signed with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to work together on stopping plastic pollution in the Pasig River before it reaches the ocean.

You might remember that the Pasig ranked first in our 2021 global river study. We don’t think this is the case anymore (PH was probably overestimated in general gov has already undertaken lots of cleanup in recent years) but still plenty to do here!

Our latest survey estimates 4m kg of plastic is emitted into the Manila Bay every year (=1 to 4% of global ocean plastic inflow). As part of the 30 Cities Program, we aim to reduce this by 90% in the next few years.

Credit cards and loyalty programs always have a “platinum” tier, so I was wondering: is platinum actually better than gold? Turns out gold has traded above platinum since 2015, now by 2.5x! Tell your credit card company to consider rhodium, iridium or ruthenium tiers instead.

It was a pleasure spending time with @CarolinaMejiaG, Mayor of Santo Domingo, to discuss our upcoming deployment in the Río Ozama. I’m grateful for her support and commitment to clean oceans!

There *is* a certain irony to the fact that our projects to clean the ocean can sometimes face months-long delays because we have to wait for environmental permits
A trolley is about to hit 5 people laying on the track You can redirect the car, but the other track has not yet reached regulatory approval or completed its 1 year environmental testing period, so operating a train car on it is a violation of transit regulations What do you do?

We are expanding our operations in Greater Los Angeles. 🇺🇸 Last week, we announced our agreement with county and city leaders in Los Angeles to help intercept an estimated 410–628 tons of plastic from entering the Pacific Ocean each year. Our next Interceptor deployments are planned in Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers. Some highlights from last week's event ⬇️

UPDATE: Following the success of Interceptor 007, we’ve signed agreements with county and city leaders in Los Angeles to expand our operations to the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers. 🇺🇸

I love the Californian coast, so I’m very excited that we now have the opportunity to end plastic pollution here. Super grateful to for the support of leaders like Assemblywoman Dixon, Supervisors Hahn and Nguyen and Mayor Richardson for making it a happen! 🇺🇸

As we speak, we have over 100 people working to clear the legacy pollution from the Gulf of Honduras coastline. Step 1: stop the inflow with Interceptors Step 2: clean up the legacy pollution along the coast Step 3: success

This is the hell of plastic pollution. The photo shows Rio Motagua in Guatemala. It’s a horrible scene. There are many similar places across the globe. But the good news is that at the end of this year the beaches of Guatemala will come back to old splendor - white sands, blue oceans, green vegetation. This is thanks to The Ocean Cleanup. Their fantastic river interceptors today pick up 2 - 5 % of all plastics moving into our Ocean. Nearly all plastics coming into the Ocean originate in 1000 rivers. Ocean Cleanup is ready to vastly expand its operations. Nearly all of these rivers are in middle income countries. The rich have effective garbage collection. The poorest cannot afford much plastic. I had a wonderful conversation with Boyan Slat the founding father of Ocean Cleanup today. “This is the cheapest global problem to solve”, he said. He needs more investors - companies, philanthropy or governments. Can anyone please come forward! More: lnkd.in/ewDT4pWZ

It’s incredible how often the Pareto principle shows up in the real world. In our aerial survey data, 80% of the plastic in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch was concentrated in just ~20% of the surveyed surface area. (This, btw, is why we're focusing on targeting the hotspots)
