Before I retreat back in to Twitter oblivion: 501 orgs need bright line rules. Fund the IRS. Also give them donuts if you think of it. Be well. See you next time.

Ok this time it’s really ending though. THANK YOU AGAIN to the witnesses @EOTaxProf and @AnnMRavel and @SenWhitehouse @SenatorMenendez @SenWarren and @SenCortezMasto for your great questions!
We have to hold people accountable when they violate our laws! Transparency and accountability at all levels! We agree @SenCortezMasto

(To be clear, I was the one exaggerating them)
Now @SenCortezMasto is here, reports of the early end of this hearing were greatly exaggerated.

We demand a government not bought by billionaires and big corporations, @SenWarren singing our song.
AND ELIMINATE THE RIDERS THAT PREVENT THE IRS FROM CLARIFYING THE RULES YEEEEESSSSSSS @SenWarren
Love this “hypothetical” from @SenWarren highlighting how moving $ around can amount to political money laundering.

A late breaking arrival from @SenatorMenendez!
Better rules in this space are good for ALL of us.
And the efforts to clean it up apply to both sides! YES. @SenWhitehouse
In his closing, @SenWhitehouse reminds us that in Citizen’s United the Court said that there wouldn’t be secrecy. But they never corrected themselves, even when it was clear they had been wrong.

Very sadly it looks like we have to wrap early due to World Events. THANK YOU to the Committee and to @SenWhitehouse for bringing light to these issues!!!
So….. (c)(3) voter registration/ nonpartisan civic participation is good, actually. And long recognized as a valid (c)(3) activity. Unlike undisclosed election spending through (c)(4)s, say, which came about through a series of IRS/SCOTUS decisions Congress did not anticipate

YES A CHART! Nice Visual representations of data! (I don’t tweet much friends. This is what we got.). @SenWhitehouse
I still believe we should have an outside support effort for IRS enforcers, who really get thrown under the bus with regularity. Can we stand outside their building with donuts or something sometime? Who’s with me?
Lack of enforcement from the IRS has emboldened bad actor (c)(4)s, says @AnnMRavel. Thanks for your expertise!

Congress should repeal the budget rider preventing action on making better rules for (c)(4)s, says @EOTaxProf. Great point!
