No. 119 in our rankings of every college basketball program is ETSU! The Buccaneers have been a really good program since the late 80s, with 9 of their 10 NCAA Tournaments between 1989 and 2017. They’ve also had numerous 20-win seasons and even a 30-4 campaign in 2019-20 before COVID canceled March Madness. In 1968, the Bucs made a run to the Sweet 16, the furthest they’ve ever made it. Also, Keith Jennings, a former player, was a Consensus AA in 1991 and still ranks 6th all-time with 983 assists.

Into the top 120 as the Rhode Island Rams are next! The Rams are a longtime A-10 program that has seen a lot of success in recent years. The progrm has had notable coaches like Archie Miller and Dan Hurley, who took them to back-to-back round of 32s in the 2010s. But the Rams had their most notable years in the late 90s when future NBA stars Cuttino Mobley and Lamar Odom made the Ocean State their home. In ‘98, Mobley led URI on a run all the way to the Elite 8, falling by two points to Stanford, just short of a Final Four. The program also had a Sweet 16 run in 1988 and other success further back in the Yankee Conference in the 60s and 70s. URI has practically always put a solid team on the court and as the game grew, they grew with it!

On to No. 121 in our rankings which is Ohio! The Bobcats have long been one of the top teams in the MAC, with 10 regular season titles and 7 NCAA Tournament bids. They made the Sweet 16 three times, with an Elite 8 in 1964. And in 2021, the Bobcats picked up an upset win over 4-seed Virginia. Jeff Boals has been a solid coach the past seven seasons, but other guys like John Groce, Jim Christian, Larry Hunter, Danny Nee, and James Snyder have kept Ohio consistent for really the past seven decades. Ohio also had a Consensus AA, Frank Baumholtz, in 1941. Other notable players include Gary Trent Sr., Jason Preston, and Mark Sears.

No. 128 is Grand Canyon! Has any program accomplished as much in 13 seasons in Division I? GCU has been to 4 NCAA Tournaments and went to the round of 32 in 2024, going 30-5 that season. They’ve had 5 straight 20-win seasons and just 1 losing record, coming in 2020. Head coach Bryce Drew has built them into a mid-major powerhouse and in year one in the Mountain West they continued it with a 20-12 season. The Lopes ain’t slowing down!

No. 129 in our rankings of every D1 college hoops program is Yale! Lately, they have been the top team in the Ivy League, going to the tourney 5 times since 2016. They’ve pulled off two first round upsets, including a famous one over 5-seed Baylor in 2016 when Taurean Prince was asked how Yale could outrebound Baylor? Head coach James Jones has been there for all of that and more with 442 wins and counting since 1999. Yale also had a good run from 1949-1962, making the NCAA Tournament three times in that span. And like most of the Ivies, they’ve got 10 former Consensus AA nods, thanks to dominating in the early 1900s.

No. 122 in our rankings of every D1 college basketball program is Washington State! The Cougars have had some great talent come through their doors - Klay Thompson, Craig Ehlo, James Donaldson, and more. WSU have also been great in March Madness, with a 7-7 record all-time. In fact, they’ve won at least one game all but twice, going to the Sweet 16 in 2008 - a team that feature future NBA player Aron Baynes. Unfortunately, they went along with the fall of the Pac-12, so we’ll see what that means for their future.

Final program of the night at No. 123 is South Alabama! The Jaguars are one of the winningest mid-major programs of all-time, with 13 regular season conference championships. They’ve been to March Madness 8 times, winning 1 game. Most of their bids came from the late 70s to 90s as they dominated Sun Belt play. Head coaches Cliff Ellis and Ronnie Arrow were crucial to their play. They’ve missed out on the big dance for the last two decades, but continue to be a winning program with four 20-win seasons in their last seven.

No. 130 is Rutgers - and shoutout to Dylan Harper (who probably isn’t too happy right now). While that experiment didn’t work out too well, Rutgers did go to the Final Four in 1976, so 50 years ago, the Scarlet Knights had that history going for them. Overall, just 8 tourney bids for Rutgers who last made it in 2022. While they haven’t been a great team in the Big East or Big Ten, they were a premiere squad in the Atlantic 10 in the 80s and 90s. It has just been a while since Rutgers was at the top of their game.

America’s team from last season joins the rankings at No. 131! Nothing was stopping the RedHawks last season, going 32-2 and making it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007. While it was a season to remember, they’ve had a good share of great moments before. Miami has been to the big dance 18 times, winning 7 games in March Madness. That inclides a Sweet 16 in 1999, 1978, 1969, and 1958. But the ‘99 season was the famous one, as senior Wally Szczerbiak was a Consensus AA and took the nation by storm. And the other Consensus AA for Miami? Ron Harper! Miami’s been a great team in March and they’ve had some great talent.

The Bears of Missouri State are up next at No. 132! They’ve nearly always been a winning program, with a .585 winning percentage all-time. 18 20-win seasons to just 10 losing records is one heck of a ratio. It has only led to 6 NCAA Tournaments, but 3 wins, including a Sweet 16 run as a 12-seed in 1999, with Steve Alford as the head coach. Unfortunately, that is the last time they went dancing, despite so many great seasons since.

No. 133 in our rankings of every D1 basketball program all-time is Northern Iowa. From Ali Farokhmanesh to Seth Tuttle, the Panthers have had some great moments and players in the Ben Jacobson era. In 20 seasons as their head coach, he led UNI to 5 NCAA Tournaments and a Sweet 16 in 2010. Before him, Greg McDermott had taken the Panthers to 3 straight tourneys - a program that has been to 8 in the last 23 seasons and 9 since becoming D1 in 1980. Now, they enter a new era, as head coach Kyle Green will try and keep them at the top of the MVC.

No. 124 in our rankings of every D1 program in college basketball history is Dartmouth! The Big Green follow the path of most Ivy League schools, with some great seasons in the early 1900s, named as National Champs in 1906. But their success continued a bit later, heading to the Final Four in 1942 and 1944, finishing as the runners-up in BOTH NCAA Tournaments. Dartmouth made more tournaments in the 1950s, but their last was in 1959, the longest active streak in between bids. In fact, since then, they’ve only had 11 winning seasons. Dartmouth fans probably think it’s been too long, but their early history was some of the best in college basketball.

We’ve reached the top 125, where Virginia Tech makes the cut in our all-time programs rankings! The Hokies have been no stranger to March Madness lately, going dancing 5 times from 2017-22. In 2019, Buzz Williams led them to the Sweet 16. They’ve gone to the big dance 13 times, and made the Elite 8 in 1967, their best run in program history. Notable players for VTech? There are some good ones! Dell Curry, Bimbo Coles, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker all played in Blacksburg. While they aren’t a top tier ACC squad, the Hokies have had their moments!

The Gaels! Saint Mary’s comes in next at No. 126! The Randy Bennett era was something else in Moraga - 12 of their 15 NCAA Tournaments, a Consensus AA in Jock Landale, and a Sweet 16 run in 2010. If it weren’t for Gonzaga, the Gaels have RUN the WCC the past two decades. Before Bennett? Not many people knew about Saint Mary’s. They had previously only made the big dance three times with an Elite 8 back in 1959. It has really been a tale of two centuries with the current one being an outstanding one.

Up next at No. 127 is a Jacksonville program with one very special season. In 1970, Artis Gilmore led them to the Final Four and an 11-point loss to UCLA in the National Championship. Gilmore would get them back to the tourney in 1971, but a loss to WKU sent them home in the first round. Since then, Jacksonville has made three more NCAA Tournaments with the last one coming in 1986. The program saw some competitive teams in the early 2000s, but nothing has come close to their dynasty in the 70s and continued good play in the 80s, which also included another NBA star in Dee Brown.

No. 134 is Marshall! The Thundering Herd have a winning percentage of .572 all-time, with over 1,600 wins in 107 seasons and counting. They’ve turned that into 6 NCAA Tournaments and one round of 32 in 2018. Marshalls’s had some great players too - Consensus AA Leo Byrd starred in the late 1950s alongside Hal Greer, who was named as one of the NBA’s top 50 players all-time. In the 1970s, Mike D’Antoni played for Marshall, and more recently, Hassan Whiteside repped the white and green. They have had some outstanding players and also recently won the CIT in 2019. They don’t have the most March Madness success, but everything else points to a dominant mid-major program.

Drake makes the cut at No. 135 and right away, the most surprising stat is a losing record overall! Because lately, the Bulldogs have been nearly untouchable - with 4 trips to the NCAA Tournament in the last 6 seasons, and 5 seasons of 25 wins or more. The Bulldogs also made 3 straight NCAA Tournaments from 1969-71, making the Elite 8 in the last two, and the Final Four in ‘69. Led by head cosch Maury John, Drake had one of the most impressive runs by a mid-major EVER. Unfortunately, much of the time in between these outstanding spans has been spent losing enough games to keep them way outside the top 100.
