Today marks 107 years of Combat Stress! 🧡💙 In 1919, our founders watched veterans returning from the First World War struggling with what we now call PTSD, with little understanding or support around them. They believed that with the right support, veterans could lead fulfilling lives despite their mental health  problems, and so Combat Stress was born. Over a century later, the need to support veterans through some of the most difficult experiences imaginable is just as vital as ever. Thank you to our incredible staff, partners, supporters, volunteers and fundraisers. You make this life-changing work possible. Learn more about how we help veterans and how your support makes a difference: combatstress.org.uk. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #VeteransMentalHealth #MentalHealth

Today we were proud to present Future Views at @kcmhr. Looking ahead to the next 20 years, Future Views explores how the mental health needs of the Armed Forces community may change – and what this could mean for the support veterans and their families need in the future. Using five possible future scenarios, the report provides a practical framework to help charities, policymakers and service providers plan ahead, adapt and stay responsive to change as global events and society evolve. Alan Friggieri, Director of Strategy and Communications at Combat Stress, said: “At Combat Stress, we’re always looking ahead to how we can better support the Armed Forces community, because we believe in a future where those who experience psychological trauma during service can go on to lead full and meaningful lives and where military PTSD could one day be a thing of the past.” Michelle Alston, Chief Executive of @FiMTrust said: “Charities are a cornerstone of mental health support to the Armed Forces community. This report gives charities, policymakers and service providers a way to think through different pressures on mental health to test that existing strategies and policies are fit for purpose. This report can hopefully be a useful toolkit to help the sector adapt and improve support during the next 20 years.” To read the full report, visit: combatstress.org.uk/future-s…

Veterans’ mental health was discussed last week in the House of Commons, with cross-party recognition of the importance of supporting those who have served. During the discussion, MPs also highlighted the value of the cadet forces and the wider military community, a reminder of the lifelong connection many people have with service and those who serve. We’re grateful to Tracy Gilbert MP for raising March in March during the debate and helping shine a light on the importance of ensuring veterans can access specialist treatment and support when they need it. March in March is our annual challenge raising vital funds for veterans’ mental health. By walking, running or rolling your miles this March, you’ll help us continue supporting veterans on their journey to recovery. Find out more and sign up today: marchinmarch.co.uk

Yesterday at our Glasgow Hub, we were pleased to welcome @GraemeDeyMSP, Minister for Parliamentary Business and Veterans. The Minister visited to announce Scottish Government funding towards Combat Stress' services in Scotland. This support will help ensure that veterans in Scotland can access specialist, evidence-based treatment when they need it. During the visit, the Minister met with our clinical team and took part in discussions about the challenges veterans face and how Combat Stress treatment is transforming lives. He also heard directly from a veteran who shared their experience of treatment. We’re extremely grateful to the Scottish Government for helping us to continue our specialist support for veterans’ mental health and to everyone involved in the visit.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Armistice Address 2025 at the Royal United Services Institute in London. 💙 Led by award-winning war correspondent Jane Corbin, the evening brought together an inspiring panel of women veterans, Army veteran Gemma Morgan, Commodore Carolyn Stait CBE and RAF veteran Liz McConaghy who shared honest and powerful reflections on their service, leadership, and life beyond the Armed Forces. We were also joined by Dr Vicky Aldridge, our Principal Clinical Psychologist, who offered vital clinical insight into military trauma, recovery and the lasting impact of service. Our heartfelt thanks to all our speakers, our event sponsor Hilary Meredith Solicitors, guests and supporters for making this such a meaningful and thought-provoking evening. One that truly honoured this year’s theme: “Their Service, Their Story.” #ArmisticeAddress #CombatStress #WomenInService #ForThoseWhoServed #HilaryMeredith

Today, we come together to mark Armistice Day, a day to pause, reflect and give thanks. We remember those who served in the First World War and every generation since who has shown courage, dedication, and selflessness in the service of others. Their legacy lives on in the peace and freedoms we hold today. Wherever you are, take a moment to reflect and honour all who have served, past and present. We will remember them. #ArmisticeDay #Remembrance #Veterans #LestWeForget #CombatStress #MilitaryCommunity

This Armistice, we remember. For all of us, Armistice is a time of reflection and quiet contemplation on the cost of conflict and the importance of peace. We honour those who gave their lives and also recognise the veterans who came home changed. For many, the effects of conflict remain, still being felt in minds, memories and daily lives years after the traumatic experiences. At Combat Stress, we support those ordinary people whose lives have been changed by their extraordinary experiences in the line of duty, helping them on their journey to recovery. Each year, we proudly take part in the Remembrance Sunday Cenotaph March Past, walking alongside veterans who have received our support, as well as our staff, trustees and members of the Armed Forces. For many, it is a proud and emotional day, filled with reflection and remembrance. This November, we pause to remember not only those we’ve lost, but those who remain and still need our support. #Remembrance #LestWeForget #CombatStress #VeteransMentalHealth

For many, Bonfire Night is a moment of celebration, but for some veterans living with PTSD, it can be an incredibly difficult time. The flashes, bangs and smells of fireworks can trigger painful memories of combat and loss. “We see a higher rate of distress in veterans accessing our services at this time of year. The sound and unexpected bangs of fireworks can be reminders of frontline combat where they were exposed to the horrors of war in service to this country. “Firework displays bring people together and create a lot of joy for spectators. We don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun, but we urge the public to understand how distressing noisy fireworks can be for military veterans. We also want to encourage veterans who are struggling with PTSD to reach out for help, as treatment and recovery is possible,” says Dr Naomi Wilson, Clinical Director at Combat Stress. If you need support, our free and confidential Helpline is available 24/7 on 0800 138 1619. You can also text 07537 173683 (standard rates may apply) or email helpline@combatstress.org.uk. Please note: our Helpline is not a crisis service. If you are a veteran or loved one in immediate distress, please call the NHS on 111, or dial 999 in an emergency. #CombatStress #VeteransMentalHealth #BonfireNight #Fireworks #SupportOurVeterans
