Ian Doyle, Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Jerry Buttimer TD and Assistant Chief Executive (West) of Cork County Council, Angela McAllen officially launched two new “School Zones” in Skibbereen as part of the Safe Routes to School Programme. New infrastructure at St. Patrick’s Boys NS and St. Joseph’s Girls NS includes widened footpaths, pencil bollardsm raised crossings, traffic calming, cycle parking, seating areas and pocket gardens creating safer, more accessible spaces for pupils and families. Cork County Hall will light up in red this evening in support of two worthy causes. June 14th marks Cavernoma Awareness Day and World Blood Donor Day. A cavernoma is a cluster of abnormal blood vessels, most commonly found in the brain and/or spinal cord. These vessels have thin, fragile walls, which can sometimes leak or bleed, causing neurological symptoms. Symptoms can include: · Haemorrhage, stroke, seizures, headaches · Tremors, weakness, numbness · Speech and vision problems · Fatigue, memory and concentration difficulties · Partial or full paralysis Approximately 8,500 people in Ireland have a cavernoma, with around 2,000 experiencing symptoms. Learn more at bit.ly/4uuEvJ2 This year’s 'World Blood Donor Day' campaign, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood - Save Lives.”, places humanity at the heart of every blood donation. Each donation is a powerful expression of solidarity, compassion and collective responsibility. Thank you to all of the amazing blood and platelet donors. Learn more at bit.ly/446VuGg
