Today, with great humility and sincere appreciation, I shared the below letter with President Trump. It has been a profound honor to serve the American people as DNI.

Two hundred and fifty years ago today — on May 17th, 1776 — the Second Continental Congress called for a day of humiliation, fasting, and prayer. Today, exactly 250 years later, we gather to do the same. To humbly ask once more for God's mercy and guidance — as we enter the next 250 years of this republic.

Every day, brave men and women in law enforcement put themselves in harm’s way to serve and protect our communities and keep the American people safe. Their loved ones serve and sacrifice alongside them. My sister served as a Deputy US Marshal, and there were many days when she was out on an operation that we anxiously awaited hearing from her that she was home and safe. During National Police Week, we honor those who serve, their families, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in their service to the American people. Thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and service to our nation. 🇺🇸

Millions of people will be traveling from around the world to visit the United States during our nation’s 250th anniversary celebration and to cheer on the world’s greatest soccer players at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. We are working closely with our interagency partners to ensure the intelligence community is fully engaged with law enforcement elements to support the safety and security of all Americans and visitors attending events across the 16 host cities.

A historic UAP declassification effort is underway thanks to @POTUS. We appreciate the Intelligence Community professionals, Department of War personnel, and others across the USG who are devoting their time and resources to this enormous, complex task. This administration is delivering unprecedented transparency for the American people.

The American people have long sought transparency about the government’s knowledge of unidentified aerial phenomena. Under President Trump’s leadership, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is actively coordinating the Intelligence Community’s declassification efforts with the Department of War to ensure a careful, comprehensive, and unprecedented review of our holdings to provide the American people with maximum transparency. Today’s release is the first in what will be an ongoing joint declassification and release effort.

It is essential to our national security. Over the past year, we have taken meaningful steps to begin fulfilling that responsibility through the largest IC-wide technology investment and modernization effort in history. President Trump's Intelligence Community is moving faster and more decisively on cybersecurity modernization and investments in IT than ever before, delivering stronger defenses, greater efficiency, and real cost savings for the American people.

Donald Trump was overwhelmingly elected by the American people to be our President and Commander in Chief. As our Commander in Chief, he is responsible for determining what is and is not an imminent threat, and whether or not to take action he deems necessary to protect the safety and security of our troops, the American people and our country.  The Office of the Director of National Intelligence is responsible for helping coordinate and integrate all intelligence to provide the President and Commander in Chief with the best information available to inform his decisions.  After carefully reviewing all the information before him, President Trump concluded that the terrorist Islamist regime in Iran posed an imminent threat and he took action based on that conclusion.
