It was with huge sadness that we heard of Janey Godley’s passing this weekend. Shona McCarthy, our Chief Executive, said: 'Janey was a Scottish and Fringe legend; determinedly championing and performing in the Free Fringe. She had an incredible gift and brought laughter to so many for so long.'
Our Chair Benny Higgins got to see Janey perform only two months ago; he said, 'My daughter Katie and I saw Janey at the Borders Book Festival earlier this year. Her talent for being funny and insightful about everything including her own health had tears of joy and sadness running down our cheeks. Rest in peace special Janey.'
On behalf of the whole Edinburgh Fringe community, we offer our heartfelt condolences to her family.
Earlier this morning Janey passed away in her sleep. Her family were with her.
The love and support from all her friends and fans during this cancer journey brought her enormous joy. It has also been a huge comfort to us, her family and close friends, thank you.
