I was honoured to give a Civic Reception and Welcome speech at the 180th Annual General Meeting of the Educational Institute of Scotland (@EISUnion) which was held in the Caird Hall.
Nicola Fisher says "The far right are a clear and present danger to the children in our care who we educate. They are a clear and present danger to our communities and society." #EISAGM26
Nuzhat Uthmani seconding the motion says, "The far right is becoming or even has become mainstream and it's going to become far more challenging to tackle that rise, especially within our classrooms." The motion is carried by delegates.
Nicola Fisher successfully moved the final motion of #EISAGM26. The motion recognised the increase in far-right narratives and asked for further advice for members in countering them.
Motion 67 is moved by first time speaker Tracey Trayner, "We must condemn Russia's crimes against the people of Ukraine. To enable our members to get involved in solidarity with Ukranian Trade Unions we first need to approve this motion."
Susan Quinn says, we have investigated this organisation on 2 separate occasions and nothing has changed. It doesn't mean we don't support the people in Ukraine, we do. But we have done our due diligence and this organisation hasn't met our criteria for affiliation in the past.

Craig Duffy opposes the motion and says he worries that by reporting on this issue, it normalises updating social media as a duty that is expected of us.
