44 YEARS AGO – In 1982 I launched the Amstrad 7090, the world's first ever commercial portable radio/cassette player to incorporate TWO cassette decks – enabling the user to tape tapes! Amstrad set the template and in the years that followed, every audio manufacturer in the world – including the Japanese and European giants – produced twin-cassette audio units. The British Phonographic Industry claimed that tape-to-tape equipment was inciting people to break the law by copying music. Amstrad countered this by putting a Copyright warning at the bottom of our advertising.

The crowd quiets. Then the moment arrives. The Bentley rolls forward. The keys are handed over. The crowd cheers as much for the Bentley as for the breakthrough. A spectacle is born. 7 days ago this was just an idea. Now builders are launching real sites, the Beanstalk fleet is forming, and the story is spreading across the industry. It’s been a long time since I had a product to market. That’s always been my favorite part of building things, taking an idea, putting it into the world, and watching how people respond.
