In 369 BC, Dionysius I of Syracuse sent Celtic and Iberian troops to aid the Spartan war effort. They operated around the Corinth and Sicyon region, just north of Nemea.
It is possible the La Téne sword was deposited in the well at the sanctuary of Zeus Nemea by a Celtic mercenary making an offering to the god after a victorious raid on the Sicyonians and captured their stronghold of Deras.
