Glad you can relate. It's why I speak up. I am not among people who "get" me, either, especially not my ward. I don't condemn them for that. They're not malicious or unkind — they just find me odd and don't know what to do with me. I'm on the very mild edge of the spectrum, so I have trouble connecting with people, but I don't necessarily relate to ASDs that well, either. Me, I just keep myself occupied with my root babies. Being put on the isolation protocol bites, but I'll take it over some of the others out there.

The same mutation linked to ASDs is also linked to adaptive mutations like synesthesia (which is correlated with faster information retention, swifter and more complex analytical abilities, and higher creativity). It is further seen in individuals with certain psychological abnormalities that, at low rates (~1-2%) relative to the general population, would have been advantageous to primitive communal survival. Not a comment on whether ASDs are themselves adaptive—I think anything can be at the individual level—but, yes, there is actually a neurological basis for the adaptive function of mutations that, seemingly “at random”, can present as autistic traits or present otherwise.

This is not The Silent Stinger's first RIMPAC. This is USS Charlotte (SSN 766) preparing to head out from Pearl Harbor for RIMPAC 2022. The 4 humps are from her modification to support the Advanced SEAL Delivery System. Greeneville was the only other ASDS test boat.
